Year Running: 2016/2017
Credit level: F5

Description

This course will examine the various means by which national identities are constructed, contested and expressed in modern Latin America. We will trace trajectories of social and political change, from the nation-building movements to the present day, examining how Latin American nations are transformed over time. In order to consider these issues, we will study a range of modes of cultural expression, including literature, film, and music. The course will focus on two or three selected countries, such as Argentina, Cuba or Peru, to offer a representative cross-section of Latin American nations.
